Aside from chapped lips and clumpy mascara, is there anything worse than flaky, dry skin? I think not! To combat winter skin, I always rely on two handy dandy tricks, which include exfoliating and using body butter.
If you’re experiencing dry, flaky skin then I suggest using a nice exfoliating scrub in the shower all over your body at least two times per week. After you shower, slather on body butter instead of regular lotion to nourish your skin. Do this when your skin is still damp. This will help lock in the moisture. If you have the time, I suggest slipping on a cotton shirt and pants or a cotton robe in order to give the body butter time to completely soak in and absorb into your skin. By wearing a cotton shirt and pants or a robe, you are trapping the lotion over your skin and heating it up with your body’s heat. This will allow the body butter to soak in faster and more deeply, which will hydrate your skin better.
If you can follow this two step approach a few times a week, you will be well on your way to healthier, smoother, silkier and more hydrated skin!
If your elbows, heels or knees are particularly dry then give this at home remedy a try: Do the orange crush! Cut an orange in half and squeeze the juice into a small cup, then add 2 tablespoons of regular sugar and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix everything together and then use the paste to exfoliate your rough spots (knees, elbows, heels) in the shower. Massage the mixture into your skin using small circular motions and then rinse it off with warm water while you’re still in the shower. Not only will you discover much softer skin, you will see that it’s really well hydrated too! After you give this trick a try, make sure to follow with body butter.
Speaking of body butter, I’m in the market for something new (and possibly honey scented)…
